The Old Fake Out!

What kind of people think it’s funny to fake out a wiener dog? You know the kind of people I mean. People who take a ball and pretend to throw it. I dart off to fetch it and realize, after making a fool of myself, that it’s still in your hand. Oh, that’s really funny! It’s easy to fake out a wiener dog because we’re so trusting. What can I say? I’m just made that way! When you finally do throw it, and I chase it down and bring it back to you. But you may notice that sometimes I don’t let go. Instead I run away with it and dare you come after me and try to get it.

Two can play at that game!

  3. Wally, you’re right. We humans aren’t very nice sometimes. My dachshund, Swift, must have learned that same trick from you, because he doesn’t seem to like to give up his ball all the time.

Both my husband and I play fetch with our weiner dog, Otis, but my husband hides the ball, fake throws, teases, etc. I never do. Otis much prefer’s playing with my husband :-)

I once saw this ploy criticized in an online article in which dogs complain about humans:

“Congratulations! You fooled a dog. Must be a real proud moment for the top of the food chain.”

I’ve done this! I’m humbled and won’t do it any more. :( But SPOT ON about Otto fetching it and then bringing it back but at the last minute running off with it. lol
